As an independent, non-profit organisation, BICC (Bonn International Center for Conversion) deals with a wide range of global topics in the field of peace and conflict research centering on Conversion Studies. Post-doctoral Researcher in Integration/Repatriation Policy of Refugees
Full-time position / Initial contract period: 3 years / Subject to funding / Starting date: 1 January 2015
Research at BICC builds on personal responsibility and provides the framework for researchers to pursue own research ideas. The researcher will be actively involved in a team carrying out a three years research project on durable solutions to protracted refugee crises funded by the BMZ. The tasks of the researcher will include several phases of field research and the writing of academic and policy papers. The regional focus will be on the Middle East, Afghanistan/Pakistan, Western Africa as well as the Great Lakes Region. BICC aims to establish a long-term research focus on refugees.
– PhD degree in Social Sciences (e.g. Sociology, Political Sciences, Anthropology, Geography) or a closely related discipline (mandatory);
– Excellent regional background in one of the above mentioned regions;
– Research experience with one of the following topics: refugees, refugee camps, migration, local integration and reintegration programmes;
– Proven research record documented by excellent publications;
– Experience in qualitative field research methods as well as in cooperative research projects
– Expertise in policy advice;
– Very good command of spoken and written English. Working command of German would be advantageous; other languages are an asset.

– Full time contract for an initial period of three years with the possibility of extension. Payment follows the collective wage agreement for the public service of the Länder (TV-L), plus social benefits according to German public sector rules.
