New Resource – launch of the Refugee Law Observatory


The newly launched Refugee Law Observatory is an online platform, jointly chaired by Professor Boštjan Zalar, ad hoc Judge, European Court of Human Rights; Professor James Simeon, University of York (Toronto); Professor Andrea Saccucci, Catholic University of Milan; and Violeta Moreno-Lax,Queen Mary, University of London, to provide information and learning resources to lawyers, advocates, and all those involved in refugee rights work.

Most notably, it includes a repository of videos by leading experts in refugee law ‘in practice’, which can be watched directly on the website.

The purpose of the Observatory is to enhance the capacity of legal practitioners and others interested to understand and apply refugee law in practice using balanced, practice oriented videos on refugee law.  It also provides a repository listing events and resources on refugee law.

It is private and independent and is based in Rome.  It was founded in 2014 by Susan Clements, former EU Justice and Home Affairs Policy Advisor, UK Law Societies Brussels, Assistant Lawyer, European Court of Human Rights, Associate Solicitor, Allen and Overy LLP and Hogan Lovells LLP, Temporary Legal Officer, Judicial Review of Immigration Law Team, the British Government Legal Service and Protection Intern, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
