Junior Scholars Workshop in Migration at Congress, Toronto, Canada – Call for Abstracts

Are you a doctoral candidate or a recent PhD with a journal manuscript that could benefit from feedback? Are you interested in learning more about the publication process?

The Sociology of Migration Research Cluster at the Canadian Sociological Association (CSA) and The Pathways to Prosperity Partnership?s (P2P) Standing Committee for Student Engagement invite graduate students from all disciplines to participate in a one-day workshop during the 86th
meeting of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in Toronto, Canada.

The second annual Junior Scholars of Migration workshop will select eight individuals on a competitive basis for this full day event. Junior and senior scholars will be paired; discussion of individual papers will include a brief summary of the paper by its author, faculty feedback, followed by open session of questions and dialogue. All topics broadly connected to the sociology of migration will be considered for selection. We are currently seeking funding support to provide travel bursaries for junior scholar participants. This session is co-sponsored by the Pathways to Prosperity Partnership’s (P2P) Standing Committee for Student Engagement. The second annual Junior Scholars of Migration workshop will select six to eight individuals on a competitive basis. Junior and senior scholars will be paired; discussion of individual papers will include a brief summary of the paper by its author, faculty feedback and attendee questions and feedback.   The eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • ABD or up to two-years from granting of Ph.D.
  • Paper topic broadly connected to the sociology of migration
  • Must submit an 800 to 1200 word summary of the paper
