Claire Ellis


Claire is a program coordinator, researcher, and writer, based in Toronto, Canada. She holds an MA in Immigration and Settlement Studies from Ryerson University where she researched people smuggling policy and discourses surrounding forced migration. At the Ryerson Centre for Immigration and Settlement, she researched open borders theory and facilitated dialogue surrounding the ‘bogus’ refugee discourse. She currently works at DiverseCity onBoard at the Global Diversity Exchange, Ryerson University, where she coordinates a national program working to ensure diverse representation in governance. Previously, Claire has worked with Citizenship and Immigration Canada, settlement services in Vancouver, and interned at the Canadian Red Cross Disaster Management and First Contact programs. Claire holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of British Columbia where she acted as co-chair for the WUSC Student Refugee Program UBC Committee.
