Erika Frydenlund


Head of Projects

Erika Frydenlund’s areas of expertise are Modeling & Simulation and Forced Migration. She works as a Research Assistant Professor at the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center at Old Dominion University. Her research areas center on sociopolitical immobility, with current projects on protracted refugee situations in Rwanda and transportation equity in the US. Her dissertation entitled, “’Home was Congo’: Refugees and Durable Displacement in the Borderlands of 1,000 Hills,” explored political and social processes that keep refugees in camps for decades in Rwanda. She also teaches Women’s Studies and International Studies courses at ODU. Currently, she is teaching a Refugee Studies graduate seminar that explores global and local politics of forced migration. She also served for five years on a community advisory board for refugee resettlement in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, USA.
